Spooktacular Part II

Happy almost Halloween!

This is my favorite time of year and my all-time absolute favorite holiday. I go ape shit for decorating just about anything, so this time of year is no exception. I pretty much go nuts and buy out every store on their holiday merch. I hate tacky things so I stick to the same stores when browsing for my best finds.

My top 3 are Kirklands, Hobby Lobby, and Pier 1, and my bottom 3 [basically my backups if I feel I haven't found enough things] are Kohl's, Target, and Ross. I normally decorate the entire house, but this year I wanted to focus on the living room and create an awesome gallery wall of all my Halloween art I've accumulated.

So did I do a good job?

I wish I had more surface space, I had to leave out a lot of things simply because I just ran out of room. I'm going to have to start thinking outside the box, I've got my eye on a couple pieces I will be purchasing as soon as the clearance hits! I just can't pass up a good bargain...plus all the candies!

Tricks or Treats?

Halloween is upon us!

This month certainly creeped up fast! Can you believe that All Hallow's Eve is already this Saturday?! I don't know about you but I'm still getting last minute things together for my costume. I'll give you a hint- it's a Disney character!

Obviously this is a little late, but hopefully you can forgive me considering one minute it was still 80 degrees outside and I was rockin shorts and flip flops, and the next it's pouring rain and even my new bomber jacket can't save me from getting soaked. But there is still time to get in some cute crafts with the little ones! These specifically are fun for tikes around the toddler/preschool age who aren't cute old enough to grasp the concept of coloring/cutting/gluing but still want to partake in the awesome messiness of creativity.

The little nugget and I had a blast making these adorable pictures so I know yours will have fun too! All that is needed is paint, a sheet, some construction paper, and curious fingers and wiggly toes! You can choose all 5 designs like I did [I'm an overachiever] or just pick your favorite and go from there! There are ghosts, spiders, monsters, witches, or candy corn- get creative!

I personally placed an old sheet on the living room floor so that I had quick and easy access to the bathroom sink and tub to wash his feet immediately after stamping them onto the paper. I gathered all the paint bottles and each sheet of paper that I would need and had him sit next to me in only his diaper [he's 18 months, so don't worry about your child being too young for this]. I then squirted a bit of whatever color paint I needed onto a paper plate and had him in my lap and the paper in front of us. I dipped his hand/foot, stamped it onto the paper, and quickly wiped off leftover paint with a tissue or baby wipe. If it was a dark color or extremely goopy I would wash him off in the bathroom before continuing.

Once all 5 prints were done I let them air dry overnight in another room and did the finishing touches the nest day. You can do whatever kinds of faces or colors that you would like and you don't have to add on details if you don't want to. I just always go the extra mile cause I'm a brat like that ;) It was super easy and probably only took about 30 minutes tops. On the more complicated ones- the monster and candy corn- that required more than 1 color of paint, I just handed him something to distract him while I painted the bottom of his foot. Easy peasy!

Happy painting!

Photos Make Me Awkward

Can you believe that when I was little I wanted to be a model/actress?

Actually, I guess that's not very hard to believe at all. Just ask my mother and she'd tell you what a ham I was....is. We used to have a sliding mirror door on our shower and when I would pass the bathroom I would check myself out, making kissy faces and striking poses. Eat your heart out Madonna. I like being the center of attention, and I tend to dominate a conversation- both in opinions and in volume.

I still pretend I'm being interviewed when I'm alone, does anyone else do that? Or am I just that fucking weird? Imagining what my life would be like on red carpets and movie sets. I am a Leo after all.

But one thing I can never get comfortable with is taking pictures. I love snapping a moment in time with family and friends, actually capturing J on film, and of course I love a good selfie. Selfies don't count though. I can be a diva all I want to because I am alone and can get fierce in the moment, but taking pictures alone just weirds me out.

It's not that I don't like pictures in general. In fact I love them and wish I had more full length ones to bask in my amazingness ;) What gets me is having someone else taking them of me. I've never had a problem asking someone to take a photo of myself and a group, or of J and I. But asking a total stranger to take a picture of just me makes me incredibly uncomfortable, and honestly, like a douchebag.

Does anyone else feel this way? I just get so silly having someone I actually know taking pictures of me. I can never be serious and the photo always comes out with me looking like a jackass cause my mouth is open or I'm blinking. When a friend is doing it I just get awkward and start acting like a goober. Do they think I'm dumb? Am I dumb? Yep. Total turd nugget status, at least in my opinion I am. If it's a professional photographer then by all means, I'll turn into Sasha Fierce for a bitch.

What brought this topic up? Instagram, of course. I've only had it for about 2 weeks, and I must admit I'm completely obsessed.

It may be because I'm a noob and the novelty of it all will eventually wear off. But I am just totally mesmerized by everyone's amazing pictures and gorgeous lifestyles. Everything is so bright and perfect. Clean and crisp. What baffles me the most though? Who the fuck is taking all of these pictures? Obviously I don't mean the ones of the beautiful backdrops, yummy food, adorable kiddos, and awesome daily activities. Who the hell is taking the ones of the family setups, envious fashion, and casual far-off selfies? Do they have their own personal photographer following them around everywhere? Or are they honestly setting up a tripod in pumpkin patches and restaurants?

I know this really shouldn't bother me, but I'm legitimately curious as to how this is being done. Maybe I can actually step up my own game for the future. Somebody share your secrets!
And if you're wondering, my Instagram may suck a little since I'm just a beginner, but feel free to humor me and follow along :) [@megalinlauren]

Here are some attempts to 'model' my Fall fashion in Nashville heat. Perhaps I'll slowly get the hang of it and produce quality shit that's actually worth while. Until then you can watch me fail, I don't mind.

Color Me Rad

Hey party people.

I know everyone hates Mondays and I totally get it, but I think we should start a transition where we make them a more happy experience and have something to look forward to. From here on out Monday will be considered a party, at least for me it will. I mean we get to talk about our fantastic weekends. Whether it involved crazy times out on the town or crazy times chillin on the couch gasping at the television set, it's all a party around these parts.

Let's kick this party off with a yearly recap- some of you may not know that I stopped blogging out of no where [shit happens] and just barely started back up last week. Some posts will be in real time discussing current events, while others will be chronologically brought up of past shenanigans from 2014 til present. Things might get confusing but just bear with me.

Last summer was jam packed with activities, because who wants a boring summer? The middle of June brought me to yet another 5k. I was going through a phase. One thing about me that'll ring true til the day I die is I HATE running. Like with a fiery burning passion. Why do I need to run? Unless I just stole something and need to run from the cops, I doubt there is any situation in life that will require me to run. And I don't plan on having any run-ins with the law anytime soon. But all 3 of the 5ks we participated in had one thing in common- they were interactive. It wasn't just your average let's-run-in-a-circle-til-we're-done type of thing. Snoozefest.

The Hit and Run 5k was an obstacle course that left me a little banged up and The Glo Run was a night time party filled with drunk people and vivid colors. We saved the best for last with the Color Me Rad 5k. There are many variations of this mini marathon, so we wanted to take a different approach to it instead of just wearing a bunch of white and chucking chalk packets at each other. We did this run in style- Disney style. The Princess Posse- or as I like to refer to them as Disney Divas after everything that took place- were made up of different princesses decked out in crowns, matching colors, and most importantly tutus!

I was Ariel, because duh, so a crop top was definitely needed. For any newcomers- she is my favorite princess. We both collect random things, have nothing but sisters, were raised by our fathers, and our fathers didn't particularly agree with our love interest when we were 16. Hey, at least they both came around to it. Not to mention the reason I even had red hair at the time was because I dyed it to be Ariel the previous Halloween. It was meant to be.

Three of the girls decided to be super late- and apparently schwasted- so we got impatient and opened up our little chalk packets early. One of them flung it right at my face, all up in my eyeball, so I rocked a lovely blue dome majority of the day. Side note- I love me a good drink. Most people give me shit for it, even though I have no idea why because I quite honestly drink responsibly. Yet I find it funny that at both The Glo Run and Color Me Rad everyone else showed up totally hammered before the friggin thing even started! Comical.

Left to right: Tiger Lily, Ariel, Pocahontas, Tiana, Aurora, Belle, Jasmine

Taking care of grown women dressed as Disney princesses while shitfaced is a chore in itself. I might as well have been looking after sleep-deprived, hungry toddlers at Disneyland. There really was no difference. Tutus kept falling off, phones and cameras would go missing, lots of tripping, getting lost in crowds, and trying to convince them that the ground was in fact, not there to go tinkle. That was precisely what the pretty port-a-pottys all lined up in a row were for. I deserve a medal just for that mess alone.

It really shouldn't have shocked me that we lost them halfway through the 5k. Looking back I'm more surprised that they even finished it at all. We gave up trying to find them and at first I was kind of worried but I mean, you're a grown ass woman- get your shit together. I already have my hands full with nanny kids, quill babies, and my man-child;I really shouldn't have to worry about other adults too. I'm not WonderWoman ya know! After finishing up and going berserk on chalk packets we headed to the mall to wash up and grab some Mexican. Because nothing says 'I just completed a 5k so let's celebrate' like some ice cold margs. Mmm. See, I keep it classy.

Hi Lovies!

It's officially October 1st which means I can finally decorate my house! I have been waiting for this moment since the end of August when all my local stores started showcasing all their beautiful Fall displays. I can never resist a reason to decorate, no matter how small, and Halloween is no exception considering it is hands down my all time FAVORITE holiday of the year. Even more so than Christmas. Presents are cool but do you get to dress up in costumes?! I don't think so. I'm having the hardest fucking time deciding what I want to dress up as which is no bueno considering it'll creep up fast. I better get on it!

I'm gonna make this quick and to the point- I finally got an Instagram. Yep, the girl who always made it known that there is honestly no point in having another social media platform finally caved. And honestly? I AM OBSESSED. The fact that I can browse through literally thousands of adorable hedgehog pictures whenever I want to makes me completely giddy inside. But I also get super jealous because damn, bitches are really pretty on that site. I need to step up my game. But who am I kidding- I'm not gonna learn how to do makeup or anything fancy. So my pretty little face will have to suffice. Also pictures of my quill babies and lovely book collection, if it catches your fancy. You may notice my appearance has changed a bit but don't be scared! I don't bite.. hard. ;) Okay that was lame.

Anywhooooo... stop by and say hi! @megalinlauren
